Use it if you got it. * Intro Hello! here are some Hydrogen drumkits for you. I made them using my GenHydro python script, using samples culled from all over the web by the Linux Multimedia Sprinters. I used the General MIDI spec as a guide, even where it defies traditional organizational logic. For instance, if I had 3 snare samples in one kit but no vibraslap sample, then I assigned 2 snares to the traditional 38 and 40 GM slots, and the remaining snare to 58. In other words, my goal was to have full drumkits that emulate the General MIDI kits that many of use are used to. The idea of General MIDI is that you can write music with one instrument set, and later swap the instrument set out from under your composition and still get a reasonable version of what you wrote played back to you. Similarly, if you create a loop in Hydrogen using one of these kits and then change the kit playing that loop to another from this set, then your loop will sound similar at best, or "interesting" at worst. I put the most emphasis on making sure that every beat of your loop gets played by SOME instrument, preferably something in the same "spirit" as what you originally used. So if your original loop had a crash cymbal on the third beat, then if you switch to another kit that happens to have no cymbal sample, then I tried to ensure that at least, say, a reverberating snare hit will play in place of the crash, rather than a muted triangle ping. Make sense? For what it's worth, there is a hack for piping Hydrogen files (with its MIDI channels broken out) into other players; see http://thread.gmane.org/gmane.linux.audio.users/79135 for more information. * Legend _full When a drumkit contains 47 sounds (ie, occupies all GM slots), I mark it FULL in the filename. Otherwise, the drumkit has some number less than 47 of samples. * Archival Disclaimer I didn't create any of these samples, only the drumkits. I mostly label them according to how the samples were labeled, but realistically I cannot guarantee their authenticity or quality. This collection should not be seen as an authoritative archive of drum machines throughout history; it's just a bunch of samples in hydrogen drumkit sets. The drumkit names are best seen as flavour rather than analysis. * License All the samples used to make these kits were posted online as either explicitly license-free (ergo, implied public domain), or with Creative Commons licensing. See the LICENSING folder for details. All drumkits (naming schemes, GM-ification, Hydrogenization, and so on, are Creative Commons CC-SA. See http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/deed.en_US for more information. If you believe there has been infringement, contact Klaatu. Also, go find a hobby. * The Drum Machines - Here are my notes on each drumkit, plus an internet link to a page that contains some extra info on the actual drum machine source. The links herein are the results of random internet searches; I don't vouch for any of them; mostly I'm including them because they have images and specs of the actual drum machine, and that's half the fun. - The "pigeonhole" column is my feeble attempt to give you SOME idea of what the kit "feels" like. Obviously, it's totally useless but it felt like a little classification would be helpful.
